Baltimore is getting its first taste of MexTour. The Mexican men's national soccer team will face Colombia at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday, September 26, marking the first time in the 23-year history of the annual U.S. tour that it has made a stop in the city — and the head coaching debut of Mexican soccer legend Rafael Márquez.
The match comes off the back of one of Mexico's most memorable FIFA World Cup runs in recent history, and it's the squad's first time back in the U.S. since the tournament. Mexico enters 10th in the FIFA World Rankings; Colombia sits 11th. The all-time series between the two nations is essentially even at 10 wins apiece with nine draws, though Colombia won the most recent meeting, 4-0, last October in Arlington, Texas.
The Baltimore match is the opening stop on a three-city fall tour. Mexico will also play Peru on September 29 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey, and close out against Chile on October 6 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. All three matches fall in an official FIFA international window, meaning both Mexico and its opponents are expected to field their top rosters.
Tickets for all three MexTour matches, including Baltimore, go on sale to the general public Wednesday, August 5, at 10 a.m. local time via SomosLocales.com. Game time is to be announced.
M&T Bank Stadium, home of the Ravens, has hosted international soccer before — including CONCACAF Gold Cup matches in 2013 and 2015, English Premier League friendlies, and its first MLS regular-season game earlier this year — but never a MexTour match until now.
