Tyler O'Neill and Coby Mayo hit back-to-back homers in a three-run fourth inning, powering the Orioles (56-58) to a 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels (43-71) on Wednesday night at Camden Yards.
Baltimore is now just two games under .500 and sat one game back of the final American League wild-card spot at the final out.
O'Neill crushed a 3-1 fastball from Angels starter Reid Detmers to left field, scoring Gunnar Henderson to make it 2-0, and Mayo followed with a solo shot on a curve. Leody Taveras added a pinch-hit two-run homer to right in the eighth that made it 5-2.
"He has the ability to change the game with one swing. We saw that today," Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said of O'Neill.
Trevor Rogers was good again, going six innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits. He struck out nine, using 93 pitches.
"He was outstanding tonight. He's been doing it for a long time now," Albernaz said of Rogers.
Right-hander Alex Hoppe, whom Baltimore acquired in the Taylor Ward trade, followed Rogers and went two-thirds of an inning in his Orioles debut, allowing one hit after throwing a wild pitch on his first offering of the night.
Christian Franklin, acquired from the Washington Nationals organization on Monday, led off and started in center field in his second MLB game. He went 0-for-3.
Rico Garcia finished the seventh inning, Yennier Cano threw a scoreless eighth, and Andrew Kittredge closed it out.
Mayo finished 2-for-4. Henderson was 1-for-2 with a walk.
The win is Baltimore's second straight since Monday's trade deadline.
