Maryland Whipsnakes vs. Boston Cannons: PLL Preview, Friday August 7

What to watch, key matchups, and how to follow the Whipsnakes as they face Boston Cannons in PLL action.

Baltimore Sports Feed · August 7, 2026

The Maryland Whipsnakes head into Friday night at Harvard Stadium sitting at 4-3, a record that keeps them in the playoff conversation but leaves little margin for error as the back half of the PLL season takes shape. Boston is a program that has given the Whipsnakes fits in close quarters, and a road environment at Harvard Stadium is never a comfortable setting. With the playoff picture tightening across the league, tonight is the kind of game where the standings math gets real.

The storyline everyone in the building will be tracking is Rob Pannell and Paul Rabil's all-time PLL points record. Pannell sits three points away from rewriting history, and he enters Friday having been part of an offense that put up 17 against Carolina on July 11. T.J. Malone drove that win with six points, and Joey Spallina and Aidan Carroll each added four. The question tonight is whether Pannell can find those three points against a Boston defense built to take away exactly what he does best. If Maryland's offense can create the same flow it showed against the Chaos, Pannell gets his chances.

A Whipsnakes win moves them to 5-3 and puts real pressure on the teams chasing them in the standings. To get there, Maryland needs to win the faceoff battle on the road and keep the offense running through multiple threats the way it did in that Carolina performance. Opening faceoff from Harvard Stadium is 6:00 PM ET on ESPN+.
