Maryland overcame an early deficit to defeat UConn 38-14 on Saturday, with Harry Dalton III's 4-yard touchdown run giving the Terrapins a lead they would not relinquish after trailing by a touchdown in the second quarter.
Dalton rushed 17 times for 48 yards and two touchdowns, providing the backfield punch to complement a dominant passing performance from quarterback Malik Washington, who completed 34 of 41 attempts for 347 yards and two scores without throwing an interception. Na'eem Abdul-Rahim Gladding led all receivers with eight catches for 130 yards and a touchdown, highlighted by a 60-yard gain, while Chris Durr Jr. added 10 receptions for 103 yards and a score.
Maryland's offense spread the ball to eight different receivers and got contributions from multiple ball carriers, including Iverson Howard, who rushed 14 times for 55 yards and a touchdown. The Terrapins' defense held UConn quarterback Kalieb Osborne to 10-of-21 passing for 156 yards while limiting the Huskies to just 67 rushing yards on 31 carries. Derrick LeBlanc led Maryland's pass rush with two sacks, and the unit also forced a fumble that the Terrapins recovered.
UConn's Osborne threw two touchdown passes — to Shamar Porter and JD Willoughby — but lost a fumble and was consistently pressured throughout the game. Kicker Sean O'Haire converted all five extra points and added a field goal for Maryland, which outscored UConn 24-7 after Dalton's go-ahead score.
The Terrapins (2-0) host Virginia Tech on Saturday, September 19.
