The Orioles (72-77) close out a three-game series at Rogers Centre on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays (74-75), with Baltimore's postseason window narrowing by the day.
Saturday's loss went sideways early. Kyle Bradish lasted just three innings, allowing five earned runs in a 7-3 defeat that kept Baltimore from gaining any ground. Pete Alonso provided the offensive highlight, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Gunnar Henderson and Jeremiah Jackson each added doubles, but the offense couldn't do enough to offset the damage. Luis De León and Anthony Nunez offered some relief-corps bright spots — De León struck out two over 1.2 scoreless innings, and Nunez punched out four in 1.2 innings of one-run work.
Toronto presents a stiff challenge Sunday, bringing Dylan Cease to the mound for the series finale — the right-hander is 10-5 with a 2.40 ERA, among the sharper arms Baltimore will face the rest of the season. Trevor Rogers goes for the O's, carrying a 10-9 record and 4.15 ERA into the start. At 3.0 games back of the final AL wild-card spot with the season winding down, Baltimore can afford few more stumbles — a win Sunday would at least keep that margin from widening heading into next week.
