Baltimore beat New York 7-5 in 11 innings Tuesday as Coby Mayo hit a three-run inside-the-park home run in the top of the 11th off Jonathan Pintaro, scoring Leody Taveras and Dylan Beavers to break a 4-4 tie and give the Orioles a lead they would not relinquish.
The Mets struck first on a Jared Young sacrifice fly in the first, but Baltimore answered in the second with back-to-back home runs from Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Jeremiah Jackson to take a 2-1 lead. New York retied it later in the second on a Juan Soto single and went ahead 3-2 in the third on a Carson Benge home run. The game stayed there through the eighth before Pete Alonso tied it again with a solo shot in the ninth. Marcus Semien's RBI double in the bottom of the 10th pushed the Mets back in front 4-3, setting up Mayo's decisive blast an inning later.
Mayo finished 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Encarnacion-Strand and Jackson each homered, combining for two RBI. Alonso went 1-for-5 with his 36th home run. On the mound, Shane Baz gave Baltimore four innings and allowed three earned runs. Luis De León threw two scoreless innings in relief, and Andrew Kittredge earned the save with a scoreless 11th. Alex Hoppe picked up the win. Bo Bichette went 3-for-6 for New York, while Benge homered and scored twice.
The Orioles improved to 74-78 with the win but remain 3.0 games back of the final AL wild-card spot, leaving their postseason hopes slim with little margin for error down the stretch.
