Orioles Face NL Cy Young Contender Misiorowski in Series Finale With Playoff Math Getting Grim

Brandon Young starts for Baltimore against the 97-58 Brewers, with the O's now 4.0 games out of the final AL wild-card spot.

The Orioles (75-80) close out a three-game home series against the Milwaukee Brewers (97-58) on Sunday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, having dropped two straight to one of baseball's best teams this season.

Trevor Rogers came inches from a shutout Saturday, throwing eight dominant innings and striking out 10 while allowing a single run, but Baltimore's offense managed nothing against Milwaukee's pitching. Gunnar Henderson and Rece Hinds each doubled, but the Orioles went scoreless in a 1-0 defeat that left them without a run in 17 innings over the past two games combined. Alex Hoppe provided a clean ninth, striking out one in a scoreless inning in relief.

Milwaukee enters the finale as one of the American League's — and either league's — elite clubs, with 97 wins and a rotation to match. Jacob Misiorowski takes the mound for the Brewers carrying a 15-5 record and a 1.89 ERA that puts him among the most dangerous starters Baltimore could draw in September. Brandon Young (9-4, 3.65 ERA) goes for the Orioles in what amounts to a difficult assignment. At 4.0 games back of the final AL wild-card spot, Baltimore has little margin left, and a series sweep at home Sunday would make an already steep climb steeper still.
