George Washington opened its season with a dominant 91-39 victory over Navy on Monday at Charles E. Smith Center, leading wire-to-wire and never letting the Midshipmen within striking distance. The Colonials took the lead 12 seconds into the game and built it methodically from there, shooting 55 percent from the field and 52 percent from three while holding Navy to 24 percent shooting.
Three George Washington reserves combined for 42 points off the bench. Ryder Frost scored 14 on 4-of-9 shooting with four rebounds, Promis N'Landu matched him with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting and three blocks, and Felix Kossaras added 14 more on 4-of-6 from three. For Navy, David Burnett led all Midshipmen with 11 points and seven rebounds while starting guard Cam Cole chipped in eight, but Cole also committed seven turnovers in 29 minutes.
How it happened
George Washington led 44-24 at halftime, a margin that reflected consistent pressure rather than any single burst. The Colonials forced turnovers and converted them at a high rate — scoring 23 points off Navy's 19 giveaways — while also generating 21 fast-break points. The second half was over quickly: GW opened with a 15-0 run starting with 19:29 remaining, stretching the score to 59-24 and leaving no doubt. The Colonials outscored Navy 47-15 in the second half and eventually pushed their largest lead to 55 points.
