Orioles Sign 13th-Round Pick Garrison Sumner Out of BYU

The right-hander returns to the draft after declining the Red Sox's 20th-round offer last year to go back to school.

The Baltimore Orioles have signed RHP Garrison Sumner, their 13th-round selection (380th overall) in the 2026 MLB Draft out of Brigham Young University. Sumner had previously been drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 20th round of the 2025 MLB Draft but opted to return to BYU for his senior season, a decision that paid off with a significantly higher selection this year.

Sumner's signing is part of a productive draft class for Baltimore, with the Orioles locking up 18 of their 20 draft selections in a busy period that also included the signings of RHP Miguel Hugas, RHP Ross Norman, RHP Diego Gutierrez, SS Brayden Fry, SS Jimmy Anderson, and C Leo Marrero.
