Baltimore fell 9-7 to the Cubs last night, with the offense generating opportunities and four home runs but the pitching unable to hold. Tyler O'Neill was the brightest spot, going 2-for-2 with two home runs and two RBI off the bench. Jackson Holliday went a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, and Pete Alonso added a solo home run, his 20th of the year.
Dean Kremer gave up four earned runs on four homers over five innings to absorb the loss, while Grant Wolfram allowed three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning in relief, which was the biggest blow.
The Cubs visit to Baltimore so far has kept them near the top of the National League Central. The O's will look to avoid a sweep today, in a game moved up to a 1:35 p.m. ET start due to forecasted inclement weather in Baltimore.
Chicago sends David Peterson (4-7, 6.75 ERA) to the mound, an ERA that gives the Orioles a genuine opening, though he is a left-hander, whom the O's have struggled against. They are 10-17 against left-handed starters this year. Trevor Rogers (6-7, 4.70 ERA) takes the ball for Baltimore. He's got the ability to put on a sparkling display at any time, and the O's could use it, as a loss would drop them to a season-low 10 games below .500.
