Orioles Recall RHP Cam Sanders From Triple-A Norfolk

The right-hander arrives in Baltimore just four days after being acquired from Pittsburgh for cash considerations.

The Baltimore Orioles recalled right-hander Cam Sanders from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, completing a rapid series of moves for the pitcher who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations on Monday and immediately optioned to Norfolk.

Sanders had been designated for assignment by Pittsburgh after the Pirates acquired Jacob Gonzalez and Brandon Eisert from the Chicago White Sox, creating the opportunity for Baltimore to claim him. The move marked Sanders' fifth option to Triple-A this season before landing with the Orioles organization.

The recall was facilitated in part by additional roster activity, as the Orioles also placed Keegan Agin on the 60-day IL and infielder Blaze Alexander on the injured list and recalled Christian Encarnacion-Strand from Norfolk, creating the roster flexibility needed to bring Sanders to the big league club.

Sanders will contribute out of the bullpen as Baltimore looks to bolster its pitching depth in the second half of the season.
