Orioles Transfer Closer Ryan Helsley to 60-Day IL With Elbow Discomfort

The move effectively rules out Helsley for at least two months and removes him from Baltimore's 40-man roster.

Baltimore Sports Feed · July 19, 2026

The Baltimore Orioles transferred right-handed closer Ryan Helsley from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list on Sunday with right elbow discomfort, a significant blow to the back end of Baltimore's bullpen. Helsley had originally been placed on the 15-day IL on July 3, retroactive to June 30, with inflammation around the right elbow. The 60-day designation removes him from the 40-man roster and ensures he cannot return for a minimum of two months.

To help address the roster reshuffling, the Orioles also selected the contract of catcher Sam Huff from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned right-hander Cam Sanders to the Tides. With Helsley sidelined for the foreseeable future, Baltimore will need to look elsewhere for saves and high-leverage innings as the team pushes through the second half of the season.
