Tuesday night's game between the Orioles (49-52) and Boston Red Sox (51-48) at Fenway Park was rained out, and they'll play a doubleheader Wednesday to make up for the delay and finish the three-game series.
The teams are coming off an electric series opener on Monday - a 6-5 win for Boston that extended its win steak to 14 and ended Baltimore's at sevent.
Gunnar Henderson led the offense with three doubles in a 3-for-5 performance, while Christian Encarnacion-Strand went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Shane Baz gave Baltimore a good start, working six innings and allowing two earned runs while striking out six. The O's led three different times, but couldn't hold the lead as they committed four errors.
Boston enters Wednesday looking to match team history and become the first Red Sox team to win 15 straight games since the 1946 edition, which featured Ted Williams. With a win, they'll have a chance to set a new record of 16 on the same day.
Left-hander Jake Bennett will start the afternoon game for the Red Sox, facing Dean Kremer.
Kyle Bradish (6-9, 3.61 ERA) will start Wednesday's nightcap for Baltimore. It's the first start for Bradish since he signed a five-year contract extension worth a reported $90 million on Saturday.
The Red Sox starter for the second game is still to be determined. On Tuesday, Boston was due to send Ranger Suarez, returning from the injured list (left groin strain), to the mound, but in the afternoon the Red Sox announced that lefty Eduardo Rivera would start instead to give Suarez more time to get healthy. The rainout might be just what he needs.
Samuel Basallo (right shoulder) was not in the originally posted lineup for Tuesday night's game, but told reporters in Boston that the shoulder is improving and he intends to avoid going on the injured list.
