Baltimore beat Tampa Bay 10-2 Sunday as a seven-run sixth inning broke open a close game and handed the Rays their most lopsided loss of the four-game series. Baltimore (61-63) has won the first three.
Jackson Holliday went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Christian Encarnacion-Strand added a double and three RBI of his own, and Colton Cowser hit a home run with two RBI. Pete Alonso, at designated hitter after cramping in his leg on Saturday night, doubled and drove in two runs in limited action.
Tampa Bay's Steven Matz absorbed most of the damage, allowing five earned runs in two-thirds of an inning during the decisive sixth. The Rays had taken a 1-0 lead in the fourth, but Baltimore answered with three runs in the fifth, with Holliday driving in the Orioles' first run with a two-out single to center, before Matz entered and the Orioles put the game away.
Trevor Rogers earned the win with six innings of work, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out six. Three Baltimore relievers — Alex Hoppe, Albert Suárez and Grant Wolfram — combined to throw three scoreless innings to close it out.
The Orioles ended the game tied with Texas for the final AL wild-card spot.
