The New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-1 Thursday as Gerrit Cole dominated through six innings and Luis García Jr. and Spencer Jones each homered to pace the offense.
Cole allowed just one earned run on four hits while striking out eight across six innings to earn the win. Jones went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored, and García Jr. matched him with a 3-for-4 line, a home run, and two runs scored. Ryan Yarbrough closed it out with three hitless innings, striking out four, to earn the save.
New York broke the game open with three runs in the third inning, building a lead Kyle Bradish and the Baltimore bullpen could not recover from. The Orioles got one back in the fifth on a solo home run by Dylan Beavers, but the Yankees added two more in the sixth to put the game away. Bradish allowed eight hits and three earned runs in 5.2 innings, giving up two home runs in the loss.
Baltimore's offense managed just six hits on the night, with Pete Alonso going 2-for-4 as the lone multi-hit contributor. The Orioles will look to avoid a series sweep when the two clubs wrap up their Thursday-Friday schedule.
