The Orioles have re-signed right-hander Albert Suárez to a minor league contract, sending him to Triple-A Norfolk just days after he elected free agency following his most recent designation for assignment.
This is nothing new for Suárez and Baltimore. Counting this move, he's been cut loose and brought back five separate times across his three seasons with the organization — four times this year alone, plus a non-tender-and-re-sign cycle over the winter after 2025. The pattern plays out almost identically each time: a DFA or non-tender, a trip through waivers unclaimed, and a quick return on a fresh minor league deal. Before this stint ended, Suárez had logged 55 innings across 25 appearances out of the bullpen with an ERA just under 4.00.
The relationship dates back to 2024, when Suárez re-emerged in Baltimore's rotation after several years pitching overseas in Japan and South Korea, throwing 133 2/3 innings with a 3.70 ERA. Injuries wiped out most of his 2025 season, leading to that first non-tender and a minor league deal to bring him back into the fold. Out of minor league options ever since, Suárez has little choice but to ride out the DFA carousel as long as Baltimore keeps calling — and given how often that's happened across the last two years, another turn on the roster likely isn't far off.
