The Baltimore Orioles beat the Athletics 4-3 Saturday as Coby Mayo's go-ahead single in the 10th inning scored Carlos Narváez to break a 2-2 tie and send the Orioles to a come-from-behind victory in Oakland.
Baltimore scored twice in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead — Dylan Beavers drove in Mayo with a single, then Narváez reached on a fielding error by pitcher Jacob Lopez that scored Leody Taveras. The Athletics answered with a Jonah Heim home run in the seventh and a Lawrence Butler single in the eighth that tied it at two, setting up the extra frame. In the 10th, Mayo's line drive to right plated Narváez for a 3-2 lead, and Christian Encarnación-Strand followed with a single of his own to score Gunnar Henderson and push the margin to 4-2. Zack Gelof's RBI single in the bottom half made it a one-run game, but Alex Hoppe stranded the tying run to nail down the save.
Brandon Young worked seven innings, allowing one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts, while Andrew Kittredge earned the win with a scoreless eighth. For Oakland, Heim finished 1-for-4 with his 12th home run, and Gelof and Max Muncy each went 2-for-4. Brady Basso took the loss after allowing two runs in the 10th. Lopez, who committed the error that aided Baltimore's second-inning run, struck out six in five innings of work.
Colton Cowser came off the bench to contribute a double, and Beavers finished 1-for-3 with the RBI that opened the scoring for Baltimore. The Orioles close out their series with Oakland on Sunday.
