The Baltimore Orioles beat the Cleveland Guardians 6-4 Monday as Dylan Beavers delivered a go-ahead RBI double in the second inning off Joey Cantillo that gave Baltimore a lead it would not relinquish, while Coby Mayo powered the offense with two home runs.

Beavers' line drive to right in the second scored Samuel Basallo to put Baltimore up 1-0, and the Orioles kept the pressure on in the third as Mayo hit his 20th home run of the season, followed by run-scoring walks to Blaze Alexander and Pete Alonso that pushed the lead to 4-0. Mayo added his 21st homer in the sixth, a two-run shot that made it 6-1 and proved to be the difference after Nathaniel Lowe came off the bench to hit a three-run homer in the ninth off Andrew Kittredge, cutting the deficit to 6-4.

Mayo finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Basallo went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Rece Hinds was 2-for-2. Trevor Rogers earned the win with 7.1 innings of one-run ball, allowing six hits and striking out six. Cantillo, who lasted just 2.1 innings and allowed four earned runs, took the loss. Kittredge gave up three runs on three hits in the ninth before Josh Walker closed it out for the save.

The win moves Baltimore to 70-75 on the season, still 3.0 games back of the final American League wild-card spot with little margin for error down the stretch.
