The Baltimore Orioles optioned left-hander Cade Povich to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Optioning a player sends him to the minors without exposing him to waivers, and he remains on the 40-man roster. Optioned pitchers generally must stay down at least 15 days unless they are recalled to replace an injured player.
Also on Sept. 19, first baseman Trey Mancini retired and the Orioles optioned outfielder Heston Kjerstad to Triple-A Norfolk.
