The Baltimore Orioles optioned outfielder Heston Kjerstad to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Optioning a player sends him to the minors without exposing him to waivers, and he remains on the 40-man roster. Optioned position players generally must stay down at least 10 days unless they are recalled to replace an injured player.
Also on Sept. 19, first baseman Trey Mancini retired and the Orioles optioned left-hander Cade Povich to Triple-A Norfolk.
