Orioles Open Yankees Series 4.0 Games Back of Final AL Wild-Card Spot

Baltimore (78-81) visits New York (92-67) at Yankee Stadium tonight to open a critical 3-game road series.

Baltimore Sports Feed · September 25, 2026

The Orioles (78-81) travel to Yankee Stadium on Friday to open a 3-game road series against the New York Yankees (92-67) in one of the toughest environments remaining on their schedule.

Thursday's 4-2 win over Toronto was built on a strong starting performance from Trey Gibson, who struck out seven and allowed no runs across 6.2 innings. Christian Encarnacion-Strand provided the offensive punch, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Colton Cowser added a double and an RBI, while Coby Mayo contributed a double of his own in a balanced effort at the plate.

The Yankees enter Friday with one of the better records in the American League at 92-67. Brandon Young (9-5, 3.62 ERA) gets the ball for Baltimore. A win tonight would cut the Orioles' deficit to 3.0 games behind the final AL wild-card spot with fewer than five games remaining — a margin that still makes a late run mathematically possible.

Baltimore Orioles: RHP Brandon Young (9-5, 3.62 ERA)
