Baltimore beat New York 10-2 Friday as Pete Alonso hit a two-run homer off Brendan Beck in the third inning to put the Orioles ahead for good, then added a second home run in the seventh to finish with three RBI.
Alonso's first blast, a 42nd home run of the season to left field that scored Dylan Beavers, gave Baltimore a 2-0 lead it would not relinquish. The Orioles blew the game open in the fourth, when Christian Franklin's run-scoring single made it 3-0 before Beavers capped the inning with a grand slam to right-center field, his eighth of the year, pushing the lead to 7-0. New York got one back in the bottom of the fourth on an Amed Rosario single, but Baltimore answered with Jeremiah Jackson's inside-the-park home run in the sixth, Alonso's second homer in the seventh, and a Gunnar Henderson RBI single in the eighth.
Alonso finished 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI. Beavers went 1-for-4 with four RBI. Albert Suárez earned the win with four scoreless innings of relief, striking out five after Trevor Rogers gave the Orioles four innings and allowed one earned run. Brendan Beck took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on six hits in five innings while striking out eight.
The victory moved Baltimore to 79-81 on the season, though the Orioles remain 3.5 games back of the final American League wild-card spot with little room left to maneuver.
