UCLA routed Maryland 54-3 on Saturday in College Park, with Wayne Knight's 45-yard touchdown run in the second quarter giving the Bruins a lead they never relinquished and setting the tone for a lopsided afternoon.

Knight finished with 100 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava completed 15 of 24 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown, while Troy Leigber added 83 yards on the ground, including a 63-yard carry. The UCLA defense was equally damaging, intercepting Maryland quarterback Malik Washington four times — two of which were returned for touchdowns. Scooter Jackson went 65 yards for a score and Ta'Shawn James added a 39-yard pick-six.

Knight's decisive run came at 13:34 of the second quarter, a no-huddle shotgun carry up the middle that covered 45 yards for a score. UCLA led from that point forward and kept adding to the margin throughout. Maryland's offense never found traction. Washington completed 18 of 38 passes for just 142 yards and no touchdowns to go with his four interceptions, and the Terrapins managed only 39 yards on the ground as a team. Maryland's lone score came from a Sean O'Haire field goal.

Chris Durr Jr. led Maryland receivers with seven catches for 56 yards, but the Terrapins could not convert any drives into points. The Terrapins return to action on Saturday, October 3, hosting the Nebraska Cornhuskers in what will be an important early Big Ten test.
