The Ravens appear headed for a second consecutive Sunday with Tyler Huntley under center.
Lamar Jackson did not practice Wednesday or Thursday because of his ankle injury, putting Huntley on course to start again when Baltimore visits the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Oct. 18, at Huntington Bank Field. The Week 6 matchup also brings a reunion with Browns head coach Todd Monken, who ran the Ravens' offense as coordinator from 2023 through 2025.
Minter: Jackson Is 'Day-to-Day'
Head coach Jesse Minter labeled Jackson day-to-day on Wednesday. Roughly 10 days earlier, Minter had suggested Jackson might have been able to return to the game in which he was hurt, but he said the picture sharpens only as the staff gathers more information.
"To Lamar's credit, he's working his butt off," Minter said. "He's doing everything he can to be out here, and when he's able to be, then he will."
Doyle Keeps Jackson in Game Mode
Offensive coordinator Declan Doyle said Thursday that Jackson's week looks the same whether or not he ends up playing. The goal is to make sure any time he misses is physical, not mental.
"[Lamar] has to prepare like he is playing, just so that he doesn't fall behind from a mental standpoint," Doyle said. "We're preparing him to play, and then on Sunday, that determination gets made. But I don't want his preparation to change at all, regardless of whether he is the starter or he's not."
Huntley Found His Rhythm Late
Huntley led Baltimore to an overtime win in Atlanta last week, finishing it himself on a quarterback sneak after completing his final 11 passes. Doyle said that strong finish had more to do with Huntley settling in than any change in play-calling, pointing to two very different late drives — one a two-minute series out of the shotgun, the other a ball-control possession built on the run.
"He's kind of one of those guys [where] he gets in there, the blood starts flowing, and he gets into that mode," Doyle said. "He is one of those guys that gets in the huddle, and guys have confidence in him. He's a calming presence in that way, because he doesn't get freaked out or stressed."
Derrick Henry said the locker room's belief doesn't hinge on who takes the snaps.
"Of course we want 'L' out there, but we also want 'L' to be healthy and be ready whenever he's ready," Henry said. "Our job is just to hold it down until he gets back. 'Snoop's doing a heck of a job."
Ravens Injury Notes
Beyond Jackson, three Ravens did not practice Thursday after being limited Wednesday: wide receiver Rashod Bateman (shoulder), guard John Simpson (groin) and defensive tackle Broderick Washington (ankle). Tight end Matthew Hibner (hand) missed both days.
Zay Flowers (toe) and outside linebacker Mike Green (hamstring) were new additions Thursday, both limited. Rookie receiver Ja'Kobi Lane, designated to return from injured reserve with his wrist injury, was a full participant both days.
Cornerback Marlon Humphrey (hamstring/calf), tackles Ronnie Stanley and Roger Rosengarten, and tight end Nick Vannett were upgraded to full, while Calais Campbell returned after a rest day. Center Cam Jurgens (concussion) remained limited.
Browns Injury Notes
Cleveland's list is long. Running back Quinshon Judkins (ankle), defensive tackle Mason Graham (knee/ankle), linebacker Carson Schwesinger (ankle), guard Teven Jenkins (back) and defensive end Derek Barnett (ankle) sat out both days. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel (back) was a full participant.
