Monday, Nov. 2: Loop and Huntley Among Five DNPs

The Ravens listed 18 players on their first Week 9 report. The quarterback room is at the center of it, but a new problem showed up in the kicking game.

Kicker Tyler Loop did not participate because of a right groin injury. He was one of five Ravens listed as DNP, along with quarterbacks Lamar Jackson (right thumb) and Tyler Huntley (toe), safety Jaylinn Hawkins (knee) and defensive lineman Calais Campbell, who got a rest day. Baltimore hosts the 5-2 Jaguars on Thursday night at M&T Bank Stadium with only two more practice days left.

The Quarterback Situation

Nothing on the report changes the outlook from Monday's press conference. Jackson needs surgery on his right thumb and is headed to injured reserve. His DNP is a formality until that transaction is filed. Huntley, believed to have turf toe, also did not participate, and head coach Jesse Minter said earlier Monday that he "probably" won't play Thursday.

That leaves undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano. He was listed as limited with an ankle injury, after Minter said he is working through more than one issue from his NFL debut in Buffalo. A limited estimate on the first day of a short week is about as encouraging as Baltimore could have hoped for. How he practices Tuesday will show whether he's on track to make his first career start against a Jacksonville defense that leads the league against the run.

Tyler Loop Is the New Worry

Loop's groin injury is the most surprising entry, and it's serious enough that Jesse Minter said Monday the second-year kicker "potentially may go on" injured reserve. Asked whether practice squad kicker Jake Moody, who played for Minter at Michigan and returned to Baltimore on Oct. 19, will kick Thursday night, Minter said, "At this point, yes." More on the kicking change and the rest of Minter's Monday press conference.

Two Returning Starters Not at Full Speed

The Week 9 depth chart put right guard Vega Ioane and strong safety Jaylinn Hawkins back atop their positions after both missed the Bills game. Monday's report is less certain. Ioane was limited with the knee injury, an MCL sprain, that kept him out in Buffalo. He said Monday that he feels "really good" and will see how Tuesday's practice goes before deciding if he's ready. Hawkins did not participate at all, leaving his status for Thursday unclear after two straight missed games. If he can't play, Keondre Jackson is again in line to start next to Malaki Starks and Kyle Hamilton.

Defensive Leaders on the Report

Two of Baltimore's most important defenders were limited. Trey Hendrickson is managing finger and rib injuries, and Roquan Smith has a foot issue. Nose tackle John Jenkins, Travis Jones' backup, was also limited with a knee injury. None of the three appears to be in serious danger of missing Thursday. Still, a defense that just gave up 36 points to Buffalo can't afford to be anything less than full strength against the AFC South leaders.

Offensive Line Bumps and Bruises

Four of Baltimore's five starting offensive linemen are on the report. Ioane and right tackle Roger Rosengarten (ankle), left guard John Simpson (back) and left tackle Ronnie Stanley were all limited. Stanley's listing combines a veteran rest designation with toe and ankle issues. Center Cam Jurgens is the only starter up front who isn't listed. For an offense likely to rely heavily on Derrick Henry with an inexperienced quarterback, keeping that line together matters more than usual. Running back Justice Hill (groin) was limited as well.

Full Participants

Tight ends Mark Andrews and Matt Hibner, both listed with hand injuries, were full participants, as was cornerback Nate Wiggins, who is dealing with a stinger. Running back Adam Randall (neck), whose practice window from injured reserve is open, was also a full participant. The Ravens must activate him within 21 days of opening that window or he reverts to season-ending IR.
