Georgetown never let Maryland breathe Saturday in Washington, pulling away for an 86-74 victory that dropped the Terrapins to 1-1 in the early-season. The Hoyas took the lead with 15:11 remaining in the first half and steadily widened the gap to a game-high 27-point advantage.
Jaland Lowe led the charge with 22 points, eight assists, and 5-of-8 shooting from three, while Elmarko Jackson added 17 on 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. For Maryland, Pharrel Payne was relentless inside, posting 28 points and eight rebounds on 10-of-14 shooting, but the Terrapins could not generate enough around him, shooting a dismal 3-of-20 from three as a team.
How it happened
The game was competitive early, with the lead changing twice and the teams tied three times before Georgetown grabbed the advantage for good at 11-9. The Hoyas then seized control with a 12-0 run late in the first half, turning a 32-26 lead into a 44-26 blitz that essentially decided the contest.
Maryland went into halftime down 44-28 with a mountain to climb. The Terrapins outscored Georgetown 46-42 in the second half but could never cut the deficit to single digits against a Hoyas team that shot 50 percent from three for the game and generated 23 fast-break points.
Standout performances

- Elmarko Jackson, Georgetown: 17 points, 3-of-5 from three, 4-of-4 from the line — efficient and steady throughout.
- Kayvaun Mulready, Georgetown: 15 points, 5-of-9 from three, 3 steals — one of three Hoyas to hit multiple threes as Georgetown torched Maryland from deep.
