Maryland overcame a deficit to beat Purdue 34-29 on Saturday, with quarterback Malik Washington delivering the decisive blow — a 44-yard touchdown pass to Na'eem Abdul-Rahim Gladding that broke a 14-12 game open in the third quarter and gave the Terrapins a lead they would not relinquish.
Washington finished as the engine of the Maryland offense, completing 13-of-18 passes for 253 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while adding two more rushing scores on 32 yards. DeJuan Williams complemented him on the ground with 99 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, including a 75-yard burst. Chris Durr Jr. was Washington's most dangerous target through the air, hauling in four catches for 127 yards and a touchdown, highlighted by an 87-yard reception.
How it happened
Purdue kept pace throughout with the leg of kicker Jacobo Echeverria Lozano, who was perfect on five field goal attempts — including a long of 47 yards — accounting for 17 of the Boilermakers' 29 points. Ryan Browne moved the ball efficiently, completing 24-of-38 passes for 296 yards, but Purdue's offense failed to find the end zone through the air. A fumble by Browne, recovered by Maryland's Daniel Wingate, helped the Terrapins maintain control in the second half.
