How it happened

George Mason trimmed the gap slightly with a 19-14 second-quarter edge, but the Terps responded emphatically in the third. A 10-0 Maryland run beginning with 9:28 left in the third quarter pushed the lead from 37-31 to 47-31, effectively ending any suspense. Maryland outscored George Mason 28-18 in the third quarter and held a lead as large as 24 points. Lea Bartelme was disruptive throughout, finishing with 5 steals to help smother Mason's offense, and Maryland's 14 fast-break points underscored how thoroughly the Terps converted defensive stops into easy buckets.
