Nobody in NFL history has done what Lamar Jackson does. Not the way he does it.
The Baltimore Ravens quarterback owns two records that would each be career-defining achievements on their own. Together, they tell the story of a player who redefined what a quarterback could be — and then quietly became one of the best passers in the sport's history at the same time.
The rushing records
Jackson holds the NFL record for career rushing yards by a quarterback, with 6,522 yards through the 2025 season, per StatMuse. He passed Michael Vick's previous mark of 6,109 yards on Christmas Day 2024 with a six-yard scramble in a blowout win at Houston. "I'm grateful, man," Jackson said in the postgame locker room. "That's a record that's been there forever. Michael Vick, one of my favorite players — it's just dope."
The single-season record belongs to Jackson, too. In his 2019 unanimous MVP season he rushed for 1,206 yards, breaking Vick's single-season mark of 1,039 set in 2006. He became the first quarterback in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards and post a passer rating above 100 in the same season. Through the 2024 season he had produced six campaigns with at least 700 rushing yards — another NFL record for quarterbacks.
The passer rating record nobody expected
For years the knock on Jackson was that he was a runner masquerading as a passer. That argument is now genuinely impossible to make. In September 2025, Jackson passed Aaron Rodgers to claim the NFL's all-time career passer rating record among qualified quarterbacks, sitting at 102.2 per StatMuse. Rodgers held the record at 102.6 for years; Jackson eclipsed him with a four-touchdown, zero-turnover performance in a 41–17 win over Cleveland in Week 2 of the 2025 season.
His 2024 season was the foundation: 4,172 passing yards, 41 touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 119.6 passer rating — the fourth-highest single-season mark in NFL history. He also tied the record for most perfect passer rating games in a career with four, joining Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, and Kurt Warner.

What's next
Jackson has two MVP awards — 2019 (unanimous) and 2023 — and holds a contract worth $260 million fully guaranteed, the richest in NFL history when signed in 2023. The one thing missing from his résumé is a Super Bowl. The Ravens have made the playoffs in most of his healthy seasons but have not broken through to win it all. If he does, the Hall of Fame conversation becomes a formality.
He is 29 years old. The records he already owns would look at home on a career retrospective. He is still writing the first half.
