Cowser was the highest draft pick in Sam Houston State history — fifth overall in 2021 — and had a sensational college career that included a .374/.500/.640 season as a junior. He moved quickly through the minors and debuted in 2023. His 2024 season established him as one of the AL's best young outfielders: 24 home runs, 69 RBI, nine stolen bases, and enough defense to be a Gold Glove finalist in left field. He was voted AL Outstanding Rookie by fellow players — the third Oriole in four years to earn that honor, after Gunnar Henderson (2023) and Ryan Mountcastle (2021). His 2025 season was derailed by a fractured left thumb in March that cost him the first two months, then a concussion in August. He played 92 games and still hit 16 home runs.

Good at Gunnar
Cowser and Gunnar Henderson went through the Orioles system together. When Henderson was called up to the majors in 2022, Cowser was getting food with him — and ordered him two bacon cheeseburgers to go, making sure they got to him safely. They're both cornerstones of the Orioles rebuild now. Henderson at shortstop, Cowser in the outfield.
