The Baltimore Orioles optioned left-hander Luis De León to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Optioning a player sends him to the minors without exposing him to waivers, and he remains on the 40-man roster. Optioned pitchers generally must stay down at least 15 days unless they are recalled to replace an injured player.
Also on Sept. 23, the Orioles recalled outfielder Heston Kjerstad from Triple-A Norfolk, the Orioles placed catcher Samuel Basallo on the 7-day injured list and the Orioles recalled right-hander Trey Gibson from Triple-A Norfolk.
