Pete Alonso is the biggest free agent signing in Orioles history since Chris Davis in 2016 — and everything points to a better ending. After a miserable walk year in 2024 and a comeback season in 2025 (.272, 38 HR, 126 RBI, Silver Slugger), Baltimore signed the Polar Bear to five years and $155 million with no opt-outs and no deferrals. In his first half in Baltimore he's slashed .253/.348/.478 with 21 home runs. He's averaging more RBI opportunities per game than he had with Soto in New York — Camden Yards wall adjustment hasn't slowed him down.

After the worst free agent market experience for a star player in recent memory — languishing unsigned until February 2025 on a one-year deal — Alonso responded with a career year. Led the NL with 41 doubles. Highest batting average (.272), most hits (170), and best OPS (.871) of his career. Silver Slugger at first base. He had so much to prove, and proved it all.
