Adley Stan Rutschman is the catcher for the Baltimore Orioles and the player around whom the franchise's rebuild was designed. Born February 6, 1998, in Sherwood, Oregon, Rutschman was a two-sport athlete at Oregon State — where he also served as the Beavers' placekicker — before establishing himself as the best college baseball player in the country. He won the 2018 College World Series and was named its Most Outstanding Player, setting a CWS record with 17 hits. His 2019 junior season was historic: he led Division I in on-base percentage (.575) and walks (76), winning the Golden Spikes Award, the Dick Howser Trophy, and the Buster Posey Award.

The Orioles selected him with the first overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, signing him for $8.1 million — at the time the largest signing bonus in draft history. He debuted on May 21, 2022, and immediately changed the franchise's trajectory. In his rookie season he set a record for doubles by an Orioles catcher (35). In 2023 he won a Silver Slugger and made his first All-Star team, batting .277 with 20 home runs and 80 RBI across 154 games. He was a first-team All-MLB selection. He has since been selected to three All-Star Games (2023, 2024, 2026) and is the AL's active leader in several offensive categories among catchers.

He is the only player in Orioles history to reach base safely in each of his first eight career Opening Day plate appearances. He homered from both sides of the plate in the same game on June 6, 2024, just the second Orioles catcher to do so, joining Mickey Tettleton.
